ADHD and Parenting
The scene is familiar and the parents sitting across the desk are sharing the same story that I have heard too many times. They are telling me that their child has ADHD, and is on medication. Although the child is now twelve years old, they tell me that this child has been on ADHD medication since third grade. They proceed to explain that several drugs have been tried but none seem to work. They want help and seem genuinely concerned but overwhelmed with the current situation. Good question...parenting or truly ADHD? Anxiety in children can also look like ADHD. It is not an easy answer and putting children on some of these meds is not the answer either!
