Be The Change You Want to See in The World
Be The Change You Want To See In the World- Ghandhi For two years I have sent this out on my holiday greeting cards. What exactly does this mean? We are now facing a financial crisis that makes us feel helpless? Are we helpless or is there something we can do? I want to hear from you. Let's share our thoughts. Small things are important and we can "be the change". Please post a response.

Hi Marie, Ghandi's "Be the Change" to me is the Golden Rule. We all desire to be treated with kindness and respect, but sometimes we forget on those days when everything seems to be going wrong. Sometimes a stranger's smile or greeting can mean a significant change in the rest of my day, particularly if that day is challenging.
We have to remember we are all in the same boat of humanity, no one is any different than you or me, save circumstances that life or choices have dealt. I think most people feel alone, but if we begin to reach out and help people feel good about themselves, they pass that kindness on. Kindness is catching and changes people's lives. We need to burrow out from our self-imposed hibernation and reach out to one another.
As for the financial crisis, we must heed our grandparent's common sense and good advice: Don't use credit. Pay in cash. No "wants", only needs. Clip coupons. Tithe in church. Take good care of what you have now so that it may serve you well in the future.
I used to have disposable cash and now I don't, and that has made me appreciate everything and everyone so much more. My outlook and ideals have changed for the good. Instead of that designer handbag, I save. Instead of blowing money on something for me, it goes out into the world to help someone else. I am so much happier.
We must become a nation that respects and practices morals, ethics, and good old fashion family values. We are morally responsible to help others, and so is the government.

Sharon, you are "right on". Thanks for your comments. I think we may need to review the values of our parents. We only need to buy what we absolutely need.
