Child Behavior - a Tip

As I work with parents and teachers I remind them that they need to look at the purpose of the behavior or the function of the behavior. Behavior is the result of 1.Attention or 2.Escape/Avoidance If you understand the payoff it is much easier to analyze the behavior and work towards change. Try catching the child doing something positive and then reward with praise. Take a look at what you think is a punishment or a negative consequence. The consequence may actually be a reward.
